Curator Office Hours

  • Sovern 5757 West Adams Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90016 United States (map)

Throughout the run of sacred, join its curator for an opportunity engage in open conversation about the exhibition and its themes.

Throughout the run of sacred, the curator, Naomi Stewart, will hold office hours twice a month at Sovern, offering visitors an opportunity to engage in open conversation about the exhibition and its themes. Whether encountering the work for the first time or returning for a deeper look, office hours are an invitation to slow down, ask questions, and sit with what it means to view ourselves as sacred. A brief curator-led walkthrough will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by an open conversation.

Naomi Stewart is a Los Angeles-based independent curator, consultant, and poet, and founder of Black in Place LLC. She holds a BA in Anthropology with a concentration in Art History from Hawaii Pacific University and an MBA in Leadership from Pepperdine University. Her curatorial practice centers on identity, collective healing, and somatic ecology — challenging the erasure of Black histories while emphasizing African indigenous knowledge systems and insurgent memory. Recent curatorial projects include Black in Place (Angels Gate Cultural Center), No Song Unsung (Brea Gallery), and a time to tear, a time to mend (Wonzimer).

A note on accessibility: Sovern LA is committed to creating a space that is welcoming and accessible to all. At this time, our building does not have ramps, which limits physical access for some community members. We recognize this as an area that needs improvement and are actively working toward making the space more accessible. We do our best to accommodate people of varying abilities and encourage anyone with specific access needs to reach out before attending so we can support you as best we can.
